- WINTER PLANTING CALENDAR -

Use this calendar to raise crops for winter harvesting or for over-wintering. The beds should be adequately protected by cold frames or plastic tunnels.

Enter the date when your daylight time drops below 10 hours a day. Use the date format: mm/dd/yyyy (eg. 11/10/2015).

This dark time of year is called the "Persephone Period". With less than 10 hours of daylight plants do not grow. All crops should be grown to full size before then. During the winter, plants will generally hold well, perhaps growing very slowly in a coldframe or plastic tunnel.

FIRST DATE WITH DAYLIGHT LESS THAN 10 HOURS
You can look up when the daylight time falls below 10 hours in your town using this website: USNO Duration of Daylight Calculator. For me, its November 10.
